About SAFIM

Over the past eight years, SAFIM has raised over R6-million of much-needed funding for the invaluable initiatives supported by our organisation.

We make a considerable impact each year by providing training and support to art-related projects in South Africa. Our flagship initiative, the annual SAFIM Internship, sponsors opportunities for carefully selected art graduates to work at world-class museums. Since its inception in 2017, the SAFIM internship has become highly coveted amongst local art graduates.

Our work locally is coupled with our efforts to highlight the impressive work of the Israel Museum’s Ruth Youth Wing education and outreach programmes which are centred on social cohesion and intercultural connectivity.

SAFIM is a registered Public Benefit Organisation (PBO).

OUR FUNDRAISING EFFORTS

SAFIM implements a two-prong fundraising strategy:

  • An annual, paid membership programme comprising private art events in both Cape Town and Johannesburg. Any art-interested individuals or companies are welcome to join as members.
  • An annual Gala Dinner and Art Auction – our primary fundraising event. SAFIM has hosted 7 Galas to-date, supported by local artists and galleries who have donated pieces for our auction. In acknowledgement of this generosity, SAFIM offers a % of the hammer price to participating artists. In 2023, SAFIM paid a total of R400,000 to participating artists.

SAFIM’s fundraising activities operate exclusively in South Africa.

THE RECIPIENTS OF OUR FUNDS

SAFIM has a mandate to support art programmes and initiatives that are centred on education – at varying levels, from children and youth, to Masters level graduates.

As a South African organisation, we have ensured that current recipients of our funding are all either Southern African (including our internships and bursaries), or part of the African diaspora (the Ethiopian Community project at the Israel Museum, Jerusalem)
