The Ethiopian Community Project at the Israel Museum
The Ethiopian Community Project at the Israel Museum
Our current contributions to the Israel Museum are focussed on the innovative educational programmes run by the Museum’s Ruth Youth Wing – one of the leading museum education centres in the world.
Since 2018, SAFIM has operated as the sole sponsor of the Ethiopian Community Project which brings children of Ethiopian Immigrants, aged between 8 and 15, from Jerusalem and its periphery, to visit the museum. Through various progammes, the children are exposed to the arts as a means of learning and self-expression. Art becomes a common language between communities with varying religious and cultural backgrounds and beliefs, encouraging a sense of community within the diverse population of Israel.
Many of the children enrolled in the Project have had little to no previous engagement with the arts.
