Initiatives
SAFIM raises funds to make significant contributions to valuable initiatives and causes supported by our organisation.
Annual SAFIM Internship
Each year, SAFIM sends suitably selected art curatorial graduates to a world-class museum to partake in a once-in-a-lifetime internship, fully-sponsored by our organisation.
SAFIM Fine Arts Bursary
Our inaugural fine arts bursary, launched in 2023, supported a third year student at the Ruth Prowse School of Arts, Cape Town.
The Ethiopian Community Project at the Israel Museum
Our current contributions to the Israel Museum are focussed on the innovative educational programmes run by the Museum’s Ruth Youth Wing – one of the leading museum education centres in the world.
Past Initiatives
ARTIST COVID RELIEF CAMPAIGN
In 2020 & 2021 SAFIM became acutely aware of how the Covid-19 pandemic and the consequential lockdowns impacted the livelihoods of artists and art students in South Africa. In partnership with Pick n Pay’s Feed the Nation campaign, SAFIM was able to assist as many as 300 art practitioners by distributing Pick n Pay vouchers which could be redeemed to purchase art supplies, airtime, electricity or groceries.
THE RUTH YOUTH WING AT THE ISRAEL MUSEUM
SAFIM has previously supported the following educational programmes at the Israel Museum:
- Reaching Out Through Art: Special Programmes for People with Special Needs
- Bridging the Gap: The Jewish-Arab Art Programme
